At the Industrial HR Conference on 6 November, Attila Sólyom, Digital Transformation Director at Process Solutions, presented how combining human expertise with smart technology can turn payroll into a secure, value-generating process. The session was tailored to industrial and manufacturing HR and finance leaders, showcasing how automation and data quality can transform complex payroll operations into streamlined, data-driven workflows.
The presentation, developed in collaboration with Judit Varga, Partner responsible for the payroll service line at PS, focused on how process automation, data standardisation and digital outputs can help industrial businesses achieve measurable improvements without robust investments into all-in-one solutions.
“Automation is never a goal in itself – it only makes sense when it creates real business value,” emphasised Sólyom. “If the data or the process is flawed, automation only helps us repeat the error faster.”
Practical payroll automation for manufacturing environments
Through examples drawn from everyday industrial payroll practice, Sólyom demonstrated how even small, targeted digital developments can yield major efficiency gains:
- Input stage: standardised employee data collection, digital onboarding forms and attendance sheets reduce manual effort and errors.
- Processing: automated data uploads, validation routines and form-filling macros speed up payroll preparation while enhancing accuracy.
- Output: digital data delivery, employee self-service platforms and mass document generation enable seamless payroll operations — even for factory environments with limited online access.
“True innovation in payroll doesn’t always mean a revolution — it means solutions that simply work every single day,” added Sólyom.
Exploring technology’s next steps
While the presentation focused on practical automation, the conference also sparked discussions about the future potential of AI in payroll — especially for tasks like data validation and anomaly detection. As Sólyom noted, PS continuously explores where AI can responsibly enhance efficiency, yet “in payroll, as in accounting, 100% accuracy remains the only acceptable standard.”
